"more or less"
Came across this Brueggemann prayer in Awed to Heaven, Rooted in Earth:
We will be your faithful people -- more or less
We will love you with all our hearts -- perhaps
We will love our neighbor as ourselves -- maybe.
We are grateful that with you it is never "more or less," "perhaps," or "maybe."
With you it is never "yes and no," but always "yes" -- clear, direct, unambiguous, trustworthy.
We thank you for your "yes" come flesh among us. Amen.

Joe, don't you love those Brueggemann prayers? Even as he makes you cringe with the brutal honesty of his (our) confession... I have used some of his words as liturgy, putting them in the mouths of the congregation as we lift our voices in unison. The one about "panting restlessly" for "sex and beer and sports" and "beauty and acceptance" is, uhh, interesting to read as part of a Sunday morning service.
Hope all is well at your house and that you've found rest somewhere, sometime. peace -- Katie
Just want you to know I'm thinking of the 4 of you often down south. No internet at the hotel so I'm checking the blog on my rehearsal dinner breaks. Especially grateful for the adorable pics of winter-wear-Sophia. ;-) IRA & the YMCA transition in my prayers ...
So many prayers are being lifted for you this week. I pray that your home life is taking on a routine that is safe, comforting and manageable given the circumstances you are facing. I pray that Sophia is enjoying wearing those great boots and having her baby brother home. I pray that you and Laura get double the benefit of rest when you get to sleep and God is constantly making you aware that you are in His hands.
That's exciting news to hear about the church plant. I hope the transition is just the blessing it needs to be for Brooklyn Church to continue to grow in faith and strength.
