Turn the TV On!

It's no secret that my children watch TV. (See my Nov 13, 2005 post.) So you'll understand how excited I was to read this article in the NYTimes today! The article states: "Academic research has shown that viewers ages 3 to 5 score better on tests of problem solving than those who haven’t watched the show."

Of course, it goes on to say that child-development experts confirm "the age-old wisdom that real-life interactions are best for babies [under three]. Parents can be assured, they say, that their presence trumps the tube."

At any rate, yippee for TV!

Speaking of TV, what shows are you excited about this fall season? Me? Lost and The Office. Am I missing out on anything else? Let me know.

Current:
Prison Break - completely addictive
Desperate Housewives - incredibly smart

Have potential:
Studio 60 - Aaron Sorkin's new show
Heros - Smallville for grownups

Grey's -- addictive, mindless, but well-written, and great supporting cast

Housewives -- I hope the third season is better than the second

Office -- always good

Wife likes Prison Break (That guy with the tattoos is the real reason I think she likes it) and I watch it sometimes.

Giddy about the potential of "Studio 60". Huge "West Wing" fan in withdrawl over it's end. This is by the same creator, Aaron Sorkin, and also starring Bradly Whitford (who I realize is 40 something and balding but I have such a huge crush on).

Also hoping "6 degrees" is good b/c it's set in NYC and I think it's a cool (and often true) premise.

Still lovin'"Grey's Anatomy"

Due to a convenient problem with our cable filter, we have a whole range of channels again! My husband is in TV heaven and is hoping his good luck lasts through football season. We are Sci-Fi Friday junkies: Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis (not as good as the original) and Battlestar Galactica. Too bad that virtually everything else on the Sci-Fi channel is on about the same B- level as the Saturday-morning hit from my childhood, "Land of the Lost". Oh, I guess I'm showing my age... but you could already tell, couldn't you? :-)

Did you see that 'Lost' doesn't start new episodes until October -- rough gig those guys have, filming in Hawaii and working half the year. *sigh* -- sorry my envy is showing through, as well as my impatience for a new episode so I, personally, can be even more lost and confused than ever!

Dani, thanks for sharing Jesus with your school friend. You're a precious young woman (I know because I got to meet you this summer!) and God loves you so much for sharing Christ with others. Thanks for continuing to pray for Ira. He's such a sweetheart!

I, too, have an interesting "Ira bracelet" story. Recently I worked a "Walk to Emmaus." Upon completion of my talk about "Discipleship" and how Ira's life has enabled me to disciple to ANYONE God gives me to disciple to and how Ira's life has enabled me to BE "discipled to," I returned to the room to see sixty-one Christians wearing "Ira bracelets." So yesterday I was running errands in Lubbock, TX, and stopped behind a car at a red light on 50th and Slide Road. The driver of the car in front of me started waving backward and I realized she was a new friend from the "Walk." Then she stuck her right arm out of her window and pointed at her Ira bracelet. I held up my left arm and pointed to my Ira bracelet. We smiled and went our separate ways when the light turned green. But it was an awesome reminder that Christ wants us to focus on our similarities and not our differences; and he has done this through His ultimate sacrifice....and sometimes by a precious little boy named Ira.
God bless you, Dani.
God bless Ira....and Sophia, Laura, and Joe.
Love,
Mom/Gram/Glo
