Yankee Fans!

Yankee Fans!

This is our first evening at home as a family since Ira's birth. I thought it would be great for Sophia to try on her new Yankee hat. The hat is compliments of her Gram and Granddad. She loves it. When you ask Sophia who her favorite team is she responds with incredible enthusiasm and her arm lifted high, "YANKEES!"

Ira had a good day. Ira's nurse invited us to be hands-on today and so we jumped at the opportunity. We stroked his hair when he got upset at the poking and prodding; wiped his slobber; and helped change his different wirings, etc.

We'll know more tomorrow about the effects (if it's working or not) of this new medicine. We are quite sad these days but we're hoping that being with Sophia tonight will lift our spirits. You can probably tell from the pic above that my smile is forced but we're working on it.

"I can see Love
Love is all I want to see
Love can make a beggar rich and set a prisoner free
I know He can do it for you
And God knows He did it for me.

And Love has come,
Love has come!
Love has come
And it's giving me hope to carry on."

Love those smiles! Keep workin' on Dad and Mom, Sophia! :)

I'm so relieved to hear that Ira had a good day. It sounds weird when I say it out loud, but here goes... I LOVE that little man! I've never met him. In fact, I've only met his parents ONCE, and only for a few minutes. But I do. I love little Ira, and I'm praying with all my heart for all of you. You're family now.

You're a traitor! Actually, you both look pretty good in those Yankee caps, and I'm jealous that my Big Sister went to a Yankee game without her brother!

If Ira grows up to be a Yankee fan, then we'll only have Laura to pray for to have some common sense.

We love you guys and we are praying for Ira to have another good day tomorrow.

Dear Sophia & Ira,
Tell you dad that since you live in Brooklyn, you should really be a DODGERS fan. Go blue! :)
We are still praying for a good day for Ira. Time with Sophia must be your "balm in Gilead". We love y'all.
Love,
Dave, Karise, Keely, & Kinlie

Joe, thank you for taking the time to keep all of us updated. You and Sophia look great - she is a treasure - such a precious little girl! I am so glad that ya'll were able to be hands on with Ira today. I know that had to feel better.

We wish we could be there and DO something. We continue to pray knowing that God is the only one who can do what we truly want.

What a beautiful, happy child Sophia is! And what a wonderful blessing it was for you to be able to give comfort to your baby through your loving touch today. We are so thankful that we can have these alternatingly painful and hopeful updates--every time we get online we pray that Ira is thriving. Ira has been on our synagogue's Mi Sheberach (blessing for healing) list since his birth, and all of our friends here in Raleigh are praying for him. We love you all!

Mr. Hays,
You don't know me, but I am a student of Coach Bundy's (I'm sure you know him as Byron). A few days ago he gave our class a brief summary of Ira's amazing story and of the many challenges that he has already been faced with at such a young age. As we were leaving class Coach Bundy asked that if we were prayerfull people to please pray for you,Laura,Ira,Sophia, and the rest of your family. I just wanted to let you know that I have been keeping you all in my prayers and will continue to do so. I know that God knows exactly what He's doing and while things might seem overwhelming and confusing down here it is all perfectly clear in the mind of God. (But I'm sure you know that) I pray that His name will be glorified through all of this and that His perfect Will will be done. "Great peace have they who love yourlaw, and nothing can make them stumble." Psalm 119:165
Continually Praying,
Michaela C.

Our prayer: Just as Ira felt and KNEW through your touch how LOVED he is so may you also feel through the prayers surrounding your entire family how loved each of you are! We pray a long life of good days for Ira and his family. We pray Psalms 31:24 "Be strong, all who wait with hope for the Lord and let your heart be courageous." We join you in that hope. dm

Just had to let you know we LOVE the picture!! I know your Gram and Grandpa purchased the hat but we need to talk...:-) It seems what you REALLY need is a Houston Astros hat...let us see how we can remedy this situation. :-)

Dear Joe and Laura,

Karl and Kaley have been keeping us updated, and I've taken to checking the blog pretty regularly. Tonight, as we were putting Anne Towles to bed, we said a prayer for Baby Ira. I prayed specifically for Ira's heart, and when I finished, Anne Towles asked me, "Who is that baby's dada?" And I said, "Joe." "Who is that baby's mama?" "Laura" And the final question, "Who IS that baby?" The answer - he's the hardest working baby in all of New York. Your description of the tubes and medicines and the daily ups and downs is remarkable. I know God is sustaining you with strength far beyond what you alone could muster right now.

Thanks for your faithfulness and your willingness to share this experience with the rest of us. May God bless you, Laura, Sophia, and especially Ira with heaping measures of courage and faith.

Love, Brad Griffin

Joe Clyde, Ira has touched more people in his short life than most of us have touched in many years. Tahoka is praying for you and your family and if Sophia has a yankee cap Ira gets a Texas Ranger cap.Be brave, God will be Glorified.

Go, Rangers!
We continue to pray for baby Ira too with all of our heart - from the rest of the Fortress ladies' Bible Study group who leave at a decent hour on Monday nights (remember, Laura, how they would drag us along and stay out way too late?!) We love you -

What Joe didn't tell you is what incredible neighbors he and Laura have been to us. They invite us to dinner, movie nights, and bring cookies and homemade soup. And this is all despite the fact that we are way too noisy up above! But you are right that we have a great building. It's just missing one thing, Ira. Thinking of you always.

i'm praying for ira to have another good day today, and that the Father would bless your family with strength and smiles.

joe i think its incredible how your blog has been transformed in a holy place of prayer; a place where i used to come to be encouraged by your life/ministry/insights to a place where i now come and am encouraged by the prayers of God's people; a place where of surrender and dependence. i just think its amazing what God can do with an online blog (mike cope is another great example).

take hope, share it, and be blessed today.

I have checked this blog almost daily, and when I haven't, my mom has read to me what it says over the phone. She checks it at least daily. My whole family is in prayer for Ira and your whole family. We thank you for keeping us updated and we love you more than words can tell. It was so good seeing you in March. I sure wish we could see you ALL again soon. Ira is so blessed to have an incredible family and a plethora of loving and caring friends. May the Lord keep you.
Love, Kenna and David

I just know that Ira is going to grow up and you will be able to tell him how you saw God's healing hand in his life at such an early age. Still praying.

Anxious to hear how precious Ira did today. I gave the Ladies Bible Class devo today on angels, and how angels have been watching over Ira. There were 24 present & they have all heard about precious Ira and prayed for him. He's probably the best known baby in the world! Prayers will continue to be lifted up that Ira can have comfort, healing for his heart and lungs, and soon be off the ventilator. Keep those pictures coming!....Love & hugs,
Aunt Weedon
