We checked into the Sheraton on Friday evening after having spent the morning and afternoon with Ira. We immediately got ready for our first big date. Laura looked radiant. She still, after 9 years of knowing her, has that ability to knock me off my feet. She looked hot!

We dined at Del Frisco's on Friday night. We began with Dinner Salads and then both enjoyed the 8 oz Filet Mignon with Potatoes Au Gratin and Asparagus. We attempted our hand at wine by having a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon out of California. Sorry, I’m not a wine connoisseur so I’m unsure of the actual name of the wine. We finished off our meal with Cheesecake and a Chocolate Souffle.

We then scored tix to Chicago. The woman who played Roxi lived up to the hype of her reviews. She was magnificent and sitting on the fifth row wasn’t so bad either.

We slept in on Saturday morning. Which means for us that we got to sleep until 7 a.m. It was incredible. We went to the hospital and hung with Ira that morning and afternoon.

We left the hospital and went to the spa where I was treated to a deep tissue massage and Laura a facial. I left drunk with relaxation and Laura left with a glowing, hydrated face.

We were unable to secure reservations at Babbo so we ate at ’Cesca on Saturday night. We both began with Mixed Greens salads that were much too huge. But this didn’t stop us from putting our salads away as if we had just come off a deserted island. Laura followed that with the Pasta “al Forno”, Meat Ragu & Crema di Parmigiano and I enjoyed the Grilled Lamb Loin Chop & Lamb Sausage with Cauliflower Stew & Mint.

We didn’t hang around for their dessert as we were craving some good ‘ol ice cream at Stone Cold Creamery.

We slept hard, ate good and learned how to like each other all over again. To say the least, the weekend was wonderful.

Thanks, Yael and Bryan and their friends and family, for making this happen. We are grateful.

Yes! What a blessing of a weekend. I told B the other day that I wished I could see photos of where you guys stayed, so thanks for posting the link.

Thanks for sharing the pics of Ira, too. The shot of Ira with Laura's parents made me teary. Grandparents are precious people. We pray every day that Ira will be home with you three soon.

reading your recap of the weekend makes me realize how much i take for granted the ability that my wife and i have to get away from "life" for a few hours whenever we'd like and, in comparison, how good it must've felt for the two of you guys to get out on the town with all the "life" you've been blessed with in the past few months.

i wish i'd known that people were planning things for you. i would love to have helped. you have awesome friends.

glad to hear things are progressing. i think about ira and your family often (and yet we've never met).

Joe - Great to hear you guys had such a wonderful weekend - and wonderful pics of Ira.

If you don't mind me imposing on your site - I'd like to pass along an urgent prayer request that relates to your larger family there ---

Brenton Robinson - nephew of Tom Robinson - will be having major surgery tomorrow morning (Tuesday, 28th) to remove a brain tumor. Brenton is a sophomore to be at ACU. This tumor was just discovered late last week, and the early indications are strong the tumor is benign, but that won't be confirmed until after the surgery. Prayers for a safe surgery for Brenton tomorrow at M.D. Anderson in Houston are requested. Thanks so much.

Joe and Laura,
I have often gotten teary reading the blog, and reading about your weekend did it again. :) We were praying for a time of relaxation and renewal and it sounds like you got that along with some great food! Laura - doesn't it feel great to know that even in the midst of all that your life has been lately, you can still get dressed up and knock your husband off his feet? I don't think any wife in the world would complain too much about their husband posting on a widely-read blog that she looked hot. :) So glad you guys had a good weekend, and it looks like Ira is doing pretty well from those adorable pictures. We'll keep praying. Love to all of you,
Jen for the Johnsons
