I recieved a call from Joe this morning with an update on Ira's condition. Things did not go well last night. The doctors were trying to lower Ira's dependance on the ECMO machine, but he didn't respond well. They had to turn the machine back up and Ira is currently on the ECMO at full-strength. The doctors also had to increase the level of sedation because Ira was becoming very active. Apparently he was moving his arms, kicking his legs, and turning his head a lot.

The doctors and nurses told Joe and Laura that, while this isn't what they wanted, there is still hope. They were encouraged by his increase in activity and prefer that to a baby who would just be lying there without moving. That is the positive spin on the situation. Things are still very serious and criticle and I sense it's getting a lot harder for Joe and Laura to stay "upbeat" about the situation.

For those of you in New York Joe and Laura are not taking visitors at the hospital today. If you are scheduled to bring food please plan on bringing it still. They are very appreciative of everyone's prayers, visits, and service to them. Please continue to lift them up.

Thanks,
Jason

Joe and Laura:
Yesterday, I was in the grocery store and playing in the background was Amy Grant singing El Shaddai. I stood there and cried like a baby (how embarrassing for my children). I remembered the day that you two were married and you honored Kristin by letting her serve in your wedding. Just thought you'd like to know, Kristin and Ira share a birthday.

We continue in fervent prayer.

El Shaddai, El Shaddai,
El- Elyon Na Adonai, age to age you're still the same,
by the power of the name.

El Shaddai, El Shaddai,
Erkamka Na Adonai,
we will praise and lift you high,
El Shaddai.

Joe, Laura, Sophia, and baby Ira,
You are constantly on our thoughts and in our prayers...Your Fortress family wishes so much that we could be close by to comfort you and take peace only in knowing that we are with you in the Spirit. Praying to God to heal our Sam has also been very difficult and many times we have run out of ways to ask God for his healing and this is when we've come to realize that our prayers become the most powerful because it is in our silence that the Holy Spirit is able to intercede for us on Sam's behalf and go beyond our known langauge and human wisdom. Take rest in believing that even now angels are singing over Ira and comforting him as they do our Sam. God is good..all the time...and, all the time...God is good...We want you to know that you are deeply loved...the Roy's

To all the family of Ira,
I live in Tahoka and am lifting you all up in prayer. I know first hand some of the emotions you are feeling at this time. We had 2 pound twins in NICU and remained there for almost 3 months before coming home - a most glorious day! It is a very difficult time. Most days you will feel like little Ira will take one step forward and two steps backward, the days will be tiresome and stressful just know these are the specific times that there are only on set of footprints in the sand because God will carry you through.
Many prayers and thougths,
Lisa Hawthorne - Tahoka, Texas
