Many of you will remember the post (see the March 23 entry) about the friend who came from San Antonio. He ate with us, prayed with us and annointed our heads with oil. It was a special moment for us. He left challenging us to continue the practice weekly until Ira's birth. We have and this is what we pray:

Healing power of Jesus Christ, fall afresh on Ira,
Healing power of Jesus Christ, fall afresh on Ira,
Touch him, Stir him, Unfold him, Love him,
Healing power of Jesus Christ, fall afresh on Ira.
(prayer from Howard Booth)

As I pray this I make the sign of the cross over and over again with the oil on Laura's stomach. And every Monday night as Laura and I partake in this ritual we are overcome with a few moments of peace and comfort.

We will do it one last time tonight as the two of us are alone in the hospital room.

Dearest Joe and Laura, my heart is with you. I work tomorrow...I am a labor and delivery nurse...wish I could come to be your nurse.
Dear God, hold Joe, Laura and little Sophia in your arms tonight. You know that as you hold Laura you are also holding baby Ira. May your peace cover them tonight and tomorrow as they welcome Ira and huge decisions are made. Holy Spirit guide the doctors and nurses as they care for Laura and Ira. Let us see the power of your healing hand. In the precious name of your son Jesus...Amen.

Dear Joe & Laura, Sophia & Ira,
We are praying for you tonight. Many believers lift their voices in earnest to the Father of all Graces in the hopes that this too will be a Lazarus, a miracle. Father God, be with Ira and his parents now in this hour of need.
Hear our prayer. Help your children.

Each moment today .. Ira .. you are moving towards the Light .. the light of this world, the Light and love burning brightly in your parents hearts just for you, the everlasting Light which we pray .. fills your body in miraculous ways in your time of need. Father of mercy and grace, be with Joe and Laura, hold them close and give them peace, and above all, we ask Father for Ira the power of your healing hand.

Joe,Laura,Sophia,Ira,Kay,Harvey,
My prayers have been with you all since I learned of Ira's needs. I, ironically, am in Brooklyn now for a week. I wait anxiously for news of Ira's arrival and wrap my arms around all of you in prayer. May God be gracious to you at this time.

"I will be there"
A poem for baby Ira

The light shone in the mother's womb.
God said "I will be there"

Prayer's an prayer's from the loving voices.
God said "I will be there"

Tears of sadness and sorrow.
God said "I will be there"

stress and pain through the two lovers.
God said "I will be there"

Love locked away in her special cabinet, but not realized.
God said "I will be there"

God said "I will be there
I will be there
I promise you I will be there.."
