'Twas the night before the induction, when all through the house
not a creature was stirring...

EXCEPT THE FREAKIN' JACKHAMMERING @ 4:30 a.m. OUTSIDE OUR WINDOW!

I just love the City of New York. It makes perfect sense for them to be jackhammering at 4:30 a.m., right? To top it off, something nasty settled in Sophia's chest and she coughed much of the night and our car is in the shop. Don't get me wrong, I'm not fishing for sympathy but the old cynical addage, when it rains, it pours, is very true for us this week.

But not that it's been all bad. Seeing family has been good. Discussing politics with dad is always fun. We watched Sideways last night which was an incredible movie about two guys who can't seem to get it right. (There's much more to it than that but I'll leave a more thorough evaluation to the critics.) Laura and I have sneaked in some naps over the last couple of days. And we've received encouraging phone calls, e-mails, cards and comments from people we know and don't know. And for all this, we are grateful.

Joe-

Tobin and I continue to pray for you guys. May God hear our prayers and attend to our pleas on behalf of Laura and Ira. You have a wonderful community of supporters. It's my hope that you will be able to lean back in the Spirit this week in the knowledge that God is present and that God's people continue to intercede on your behalf. shalom!

Joe and Laura,
My heart aches for y'all. Please know that our family is praying hard and I have many friends who are doing the same, especially as you face tomorrow.

May the Lord grant you some sleep tonight, a peace that could only come from Him, and a strength to face what waters you are having to cross...

"Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name, you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze." Isaiah 43:1-2

You aren't walking on water or roasting marshmellows by the fire, unfortunately. But as the waves hit you and the sweat pours down your face by the fire, may Christ's presence be ever real to you.

You are loved.

Dearest Joe & Laura,

I haven't looked at your site for awhile, so just caught up on the last several entries. Loved the pictures! I just wanted you to know that among the many who have been praying for you the last several weeks/months is our small group Bible study that meets on Tuesday evenings (Mike & I, Ron & Susie Burge, Sara Henagean,Bea Moon, and several others). God be with you. We love you.

Glenn & MM are praying for you all. We are especially remembering Joe & Glo as we are grantparents, too. Our church is praying for you all. Remember the Great Physician is working as the result of our prayers.
