We just recieved a call from Joe (9:00 am est) and Ira's surgery will begin in 20 minutes. Dr. Stolar, their surgeon, examined him this morning and his levels are right where they need to be, so they decided to go ahead and operate. I am assuming that Joe will have me post an updated later this afternoon.

God, we beg your healing hand to fall on Ira at this time. Show compassion and tenderness to your servants Joe and Laura. Give the men you have trained and allowed to be wise, the knowledge to perform your miracle on Ira today. Hear the prayers of the saints today as they lift up the Hays family. We are weak, but you are mighty, hold us in your powerful hand.

Father God, give Ira strength. Be with him as he fights and overcomes. Surround him with Your gentle, comfortine presence. Pour over Joe and Laura right now Your peace that surpasses all our understanding. Be with Sophia today Father, help her to feel settled, put inher heart a feeling of security and peace. I pray that she may be joyful today, enjoying those of us who spend time with her, and that she will not experience anxiety or saddness at being away from her parents today.

Bob and I woke up with Ira on our mind. We spent some time pouring our hearts out to God. It is during these moments that we turn to God and know that all we can do is bring our request to HIM and trust HIM. This we KNOW... God loves Ira. God loves Joe and Laura and God loves Sophia. Feel the outpouring of prayers from all around the world today. We love you!

Psalm 57:1 "Have mercy on (Ira), o God, have mercy on (him), for in you (his) soul takes refuge, (Ira) will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. (We) cry out to God Most High, to God , who fulfills his purpose for (Ira). He sends from heaven and saves (Ira), rebuking those who hotly pursue (him); God sends his love and his faithfulness."

Psalm 70 "Hasten, O God, to save (Ira); O Lord, come quickly to help (him)...You are (his) help and (his) deliverer, O Lord, do not delay."

Laura & Joe, I don't know you. I stumbled across your blog unintentionally. I am the mother of three children and my heart truely goes out to you both. Your baby will be in my prayers. I feel lead to offer you this, declared from the lips of the 3 Hebrew boys upon being sentenced to the firey furnace, 'My God is able to deliver us, but even if He doesn't.....'[para Dan3:17-18]. Remember also, God's ways are not our ways, and we do not have to understand Him in order to trust Him. I am reminded of Jesus' statement upon hearing of Lazarus' illness, 'This illness is not unto death', but he did die. Jesus didn't lie, of course. 'The glory of God and the Son of God were made manifest through it.' [para John 11:4] It is easiest to trust God in the times of plenty and comfort, but during the times of famine, drought and heartache...that takes faith. I pray you choose to trust Him in whatever His purpose may be in and for you. I will bookmark this page to learn what happens from here. I pray this has brought some form of comfort and peace. In Him, Alisa

Father, you are the great physician... may you be glorified through your healing of Baby Ira, and all the angels rejoice that a great victory was won today. Please bind and take away any evil that would come upon the Hays family to attack them or the people caring for Ira.

Joe & Laura,

You do not know us. this prayer request was sent to us by a friend in Abilene, TX to keep you in our prayers. I do not know if i can offer you any comfort but i just want you to know we know the NICU scene all too well. After not being able to conceive, my husband and i turned to IVF and lots of prayer for conception, this brought us the blessing of twins. i had a normal pregnancy until 23 weeks. i was ordered to strict bedrest in the hospital. the doctors said it would be a miracle if we made it to 28 weeks, this was the crucial point of survival for our twins. They were delivered at 29 1/2 weeks (every part of the week counts!)due to contractions that would not subside. Their condition was very critical at just 2.7 lbs and 3.2 lbs. we were left with many unanswered questions for our LORD. Our son had to have a surgery on his heart when he was barely a week old. There was not much to make us feel confident about anything that was happening or why it was happening except for the power of prayer. Yes we experienced the "one step forward and the two steps back" We did not experience the ECMO machine but we did meet with other parents whose babies had been on it. we could not imagine the feelings of parents whose babies were more sick than ours. I find it hard to find the right words to write to you because i know everything i write could make you angry or give you hope. I just know talking with other parents who go through this life changing expereince has taught us a great deal about the LORD and his ways. There is a feeling of helplessness and the only thing that would comfort us was talking to our LORD about it. Somehow we made it through (6 weeks in the NICU). we just celebrated their 1st birthday and there is not a day that goes by without thanking our God for the miracle of love and life he has brought us. Please know we do not intend to hurt you in any way by telling you a story of our now healthy twins but we thought it might help to let you know you are not alone and your precious family will be in our prayers and our hearts.

"My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

Heavenly Father, it is in Your hands that we place Ira. We all know that You have the power, guide the hands of the doctors, steady them so that their work can be done quickly to help little Ira (whom we all know on day will be Big Ira). Father we pray our prayers constantly for healing. Keep watch over Joe and Laura, calm their spirits during this difficult time. It is in Your Son's Holy name that we pray. Amen

Love,
Tom and Regina
