America is one of the richest countries in the world. And yet we give less than 1% of our budget to help those countries in extreme poverty.

UK's Tony Blair is pushing Bush to change that at the G8 conference in Scotland this July. Blair is asking Bush to stand behind a formula that will forgive the debt of the world's poorest countries to international lenders.

You too can ask Bush to consider debt relief by signing a worthy pledge at one.org.

Ira's day was okay. He spent the morning with Laura. He was awake much of the time and Laura held him for several hours. He of course fell asleep as soon as I got there and slept most of the afternoon and evening away. However, he was really fussy at different points and it was hard to calm him down. This is wearing me out.

Laura saw Katie Couric several times this morning as The Today Show did their bit. The segment is on preemies and how well this particular NICU does with premature babies. Check it out on Thursday (I think) and you'll get to see what our NICU looks like.

Hi Guys.
Did you see the interview Diane Sawyer did with Brad Pitt in which he talked about the One campaign? I did and was very moved by the film coverage of the children in Africa. The story of the little boy reaching for his hand in the orphanage was so moving... Oh that all little persons would have a big person reaching to hold their hand and to cradle them entirely in their arms. God doesn't separate us by continent, color, tribe...we are one and the same. Thank you for the opportunity to join the campaign. God bless...Praying for Ira and your family, Melissa Roy

In regards to America's obscene wealth, i thought i would add that the current administration budgeted 419.3 billion dollars for the department of defense (78 billion on new weapon systems alone).

Just imagine the difference that could be made if we put more money and effort into finding new ways to feed and clothe people instead of trying to find better ways to kill people.

In regard to Ira, keep fighting the good fight and may God continue fill you as you continue to empty yourselves for Ira's sake. Also, very few of God's miracles or blessing occurred overnight. So whether it is 40yrs in the wilderness or 3 days in the grave, I know God will give you the strength to see tomorrow.

I thought it was very interesting that in the interview that Diane Sawyer did with Brad Pitt, which I only caught about 10 minutes off while getting ready for bed the other night, that even Pitt(whose religious background I do not know) mentioned that 10% is the standard tithe and that when looking at the US budget, no where near that amount goes towards aid to the less fortunate...of course there may be more to the story than that but it is an interesting point.
Glad to hear Ira is doing good. :) I'll keep checking in!

Although forgiving African debt is a wonderful thing, I urge you to carefully learn more about the G8 plan. Countries give up a lot of rights in order to receive this forgiveness.
