Ira went off Flolan on Thursday morning and they turned his CPAP oxygen to 25%. Like the ventilator 21% is room-air and the lowest setting. However, Ira didn't agree with all the changes and de-satted quite a bit yesterday and today. They did an ECCO today and the cardiologist said that Ira's heart pressure was still high and was cause for concern but that his function was good.

We'll just keep plugging along on this long, long road. Does anyone know a good song we could sing as we travel down this road? Something smooth. Not too fast (no energy for that), not too slow (we gotta get somewhere), not too preachy (not in the mood). Can you help us out with some suggestions?

The Rawhide theme came to mind for some strange reason! : ) Sing on that one for a while! Guess it is the old West Texas Spirit talking to me! Glad to hear things are going okay. I check pretty frequently on Ira's progress. Take care. Rebecca Leggett

Dire Straits: "Why Worry Now" (track # 5 on Brothers in Arms album).

It's a little mellow...but the drummer does wake up at the end, as a friend of mine always put it.

JMAES TAYLOR - COUNTRY ROAD
Take to the highway won’t you lend me your name
Your way and my way seem to be one and the same

Mamma don’t understand it
She wants to know where I’ve been
I’d have to be some kind of natural born fool
To want to pass that way again
But I could feel it
On a country road

Sail on home to jesus won’t you good girls and boys
I’m all in pieces, you can have your own choice
But I can hear a heavenly band full of angels
And they’re coming to set me free
I don’t know nothing ’bout the why or when
But I can tell that it’s bound to be
Because I could feel it, child, yeah
On a country road

I guess my feet know where they want me to go
Walking on a country road

Take to the highway won’t you lend me your name
Your way and my way seem to be one and the same, child
Mamma don’t understand it
She wants to know where I’ve been
I’d have to be some kind of natural born fool
To want to pass that way again
But I could feel it
On a country road

Walk on down, walk on down, walk on down
Walk on down, walk on down a country road
Country road
Walking on a country road

I suppose this will reveal my dorkiness, but the other day I was humming "King of the Road" - Roger Miller. (I know, I know.) Kind of a down-on-your-luck, thing-are-looking-up, ain't got no money and have a few burdens to carry...but kind of catchy.

How about The Battle Belongs to the Lord? Do you know that one?
We pray for you and sweet baby Ira. He has come so far. We pray he is home with his family so very soon. He just looks perfectly adorable. cpap nose or not... looks perfect to me. Those eyes. My goodness, If I think of any better songs, I'll let you know. Maybe God will make a way..
God will make a way,
where there seems to be no way,
he works in ways we cannot see, He will make a way for me,
he will be my guide,
hold me closely to His side,
with love and strength for each new day,
he will make a way,
HE WILL MAKE A WAY.
Yes, that one I do like, maybe better than the first for sure. I do pray you feel the love and strength anew each day that you need to make it through this journey with your precious boy. I know I'd need strength. And only the kind our Father above can give.

This is on my iTunes... will send your way if you don't know it. It's kinda bouncy, but not annoyingly so. I also recommend Stevie Wonder's "Sunshine of My Life", 'cause it makes me happy when I hear it. :)

Song: These are Days Lyrics

These are the days
These are days you’ll remember
Never before and never since, I promise
Will the whole world be warm as this
And as you feel it,
You’ll know it’s true
That you are blessed and lucky
It’s true that you
Are touched by something
That will grow and bloom in you

These are days that you’ll remember
When May is rushing over you
With desire to be part of the miracles
You see in every hour
You’ll know it’s true
That you are blessed and lucky
It’s true that you are touched
By something that will grow and bloom in you

These are days
These are the days you might fill
With laughter until you break
These days you might feel
A shaft of light
Make its way across your face
And when you do
Then you’ll know how it was meant to be
See the signs and know their meaning
It's true
Then you’ll know how it was meant to be
Hear the signs and know they’re speaking
To you, to you

Jackie Jo and Lance and I are listening to "All Who Are Weary" by Sherri Youngward. She just repeats Jesus' words again and again, "Come to me, all who are weary. And I will give you rest for your souls..." Acoustic guitar. Not sad, but serious. A sincere invitation, and I hear Jesus in her voice. Got it off the Joan of Arcadia playlist from iTunes.

and another one that sprang to mind:

I can see the tears filling Your eyes
And I know where they're coming from
They're coming from a heart that's broken in two
By what you don't see
The person in the mirro
Doesn't look like the magazine
Oh, but when I look at you it's clear to me that ...

I can see the fingerprints of God
When I look at you
I can see the fingerprints of God
And I know it's true
You're a masterpiece
That all creation quietly applauds
And you're covered with the fingerprints of God

Never has there been and never again
Will there be another you
Fashioned by God's hand
And perfectly planned
To be just who you are
And what He's been creating
Since the first beat of your heart
Is a living breathing priceless work of art and ...

Just look at you
You're a wonder in the making
Oh, and God's not through, no
In fact, He's just getting started and ...

I always liked "faith my eyes" by caedman's call, 'specially on long road trips.

"So keep'em coming these lines on the road
And keep me responsible be it a light or heavy load
And keep me guessing with these blessings in disguise
And I'll walk with grace my feet and faith my eyes"

it just reminds me that whatever the world throws at me, the Lord and I can handle it.

Nobody Knows the Trouble I've Seen - an old African slave song

Nobody knows the trouble I've seen
Nobody knows my sorrow
Nobody knows the trouble I've seen
Glory Hallelujah

Sometimes I'm up, sometimes I'm down
And nobody knows but Jesus
Sometimes I'm almost to the ground
Nobody knows but you Lord

I believe, I believe, I believe
Nobody, no, nobody, nobody but him
Don't you know my soul King Jesus will receive
Nobody but Jesus, Nobody but the Lord

Sometimes I'm up, sometimes I'm down
There are times when I can't see my way around
There are times when I find myself level to the ground
Without a doubt you know, you know
You know that I really do believe yes
My soul, King Jesus will receive

No, nobody
Nobody knows
No, nobody knows
No one but Jesus
Jesus

Nobody knows the trouble I've seen
Nobody knows but Jesus

I picture Fozzy and Kermit in the old studebaker driving along to "Moving right along...."

Not too fast, not too fast slow, and not preachy!

Movin' right along in search of good times and good news
with good friends, you can't lose
this could become a habit
opportunity just knocked
let's reach out and grab it, yeah
together we'll nab it
Yeah, we'll hitch-hike, bus, or yellow cab it ("cabbit?")

Movin' right along
foot-loose and fancy free
getting there is half the fun, come share it with me
movin' right along
we'll learn to share the load
we don't need a map to keep this show on the road
"This song sucks"

Movin' right along we found a life on the highway
and your way is my way
so trust my navigation
movie stars, flashy cars and life with the top down
we're stormin' the big town
"Storm is right, should it be snowin'?"

Movin' right along
do I see signs of men?
"welcome" on the same post that says "come back again
Movin' right along
foot-loose and fancy free
you're ready for the big time
is it ready for me?

Movin' right along (x12)

God Bless you and little Ira! He really is adorable. I've been reading your blog for a while, linked through Kate and.or Kenny's blog. (we used to attend the same church.)

This is one that came to mind. It's a song that we both really love and it has spoken God's to us and given a voice for our cries at various times in life's journey:

"If I Stand" by Rich Mullins
There's more that rises in the morning than the sun
And more that shines in the night than just the moon
There's more than just this fire here that keeps me warm
In a shelter that is larger than this room

And there's a loyalty that's deeper than mere sentiments
And a music higher than the songs that I can sing
Stuff of Earth competes for the allegiance
I owe only to the Giver of all good things

So if I stand let me stand on the promise that you will pull me through
And if I can't, let me fall on the grace that first brought me to You
So if I sing let me sing for the joy that has born in me these songs
And if I weep let it be as a man who is longing for his home

And there's more that dances on the prairies than the wind
And more that pulses in the ocean than the tide
There's a love that's fiercer than the love between friends
More gentle than a mother's when her baby's at her side

And there's a loyalty that's deeper than mere sentiments
And a music higher than the songs that I can sing
The stuff of Earth competes for the allegence
I owe only to the Giver of all good things

So if I stand let me stand on the promise that You will pull me through
And if I can't let me fall on the grace that first brought me to You
And if I sing let me sing for the joy that has born in me these songs
And if I weep let it be as a man who is longing for his home

So if I stand let me stand on the promise You will pull me through
And if I can't let me fall on the grace that first brought me to You
And if I sing let me sing for the joy that has born in me these songs
And if I weep let it be as a man who is longing for his home

And if I weep let it be as a man who is longing for home

We love you and we are praying.

"Small Enough" by Nichole Nordeman

Oh, great God, be small enough to hear me now
There were times when I was crying
From the dark of Daniel’s den
And I have asked you once or twice
If you would part the sea again
But tonight I do not need a fiery pillar in the sky
Just wanna know you're gonna hold me if I start to cry
Oh, great God, be small enough to hear me now

Oh, great God, be close enough to feel you now
There have been moments when I could not
face Goliath on my own
And how could I forget we've marched around
Our share of Jerichos
But I will not be setting out a fleece for you tonight
Just wanna know that everything will be all right
Oh great God, be close enough to feel you now

All praise and all honor be
To the God of ancient mysteries
Whose every sign and wonder turn the pages of our history
But tonight my heart is heavy
And I cannot keep from whispering this prayer
"are you there?"

And I know you could leave writing on the wall
That’s just for me
Or send wisdom while I’m sleeping,
Like in Solomon’s sweet dreams
But I don't need the strength of Samson
Or a chariot in the end
Just want to know that you still know how many hairs
are on my head
Oh great God, be small enough to hear me now

I am constantly on my knees for your precious family, even if you don't know me...Grace and Peace

You know what brings me solace? Creedence Clearwater Revival. Seriously, if you want something not too fast, not too slow, not preachy, but with an honest human message, listen to these tunes:
Lodi
Proud Mary
Have you ever seen the rain?
Who'll stop the rain?

Now that is some contemplative, smooth music. Peace, brutha. :)

First please remember that FCCC in Sugar Land is still praying for Ira and all of you! The song that came to me (since I AM getting up in age :) is "Higher Ground"...you know, the old favorite in Songs of the Church song book, page 276?! You can sing that at any tempo you wish according to the need of your heart! It always spurs my faith to remember there IS a higher ground than I alone have found.

Thought about your criteria for a minute and then thought of this song. It's off the 'Garden State' soundtrack. Can't vouch for the movie (haven't seen it), but the soundtrack is really good. The song is part idyll, part lament, but its basic hope comes through in the music. You'll dig it.
Peace to you.

Song: Winding Road Lyrics

Well, the rain keeps on coming down
It feels like a flood in my head
And that road keeps on calling me
Screaming to everything lying ahead

And it's a winding road
I've been walking for a long time
I still don't know
Where it goes
And it's a long way home
I've been searching for a long time
I still have hope
I'm gonna find my way home

And I can see a little house
On top of the hill
And I can smell the ocean
The salt in the air
And I can see you
You're standing there
And you're washing your car
And I can see California sun in your hair

And its a winding road
I've been walking for a long time
Still don't know
Where it goes
And it's a long way home
I've been searching for a long time
Still have hope
I'm gonna find my way home

All these dreams took me so far
And I felt I just couldn't go on
And I want to hang
Out the window of your car
And see just how good this baby can run

'Cause it's a winding road
I've been walking for a long time
And I still don't know
Where it goes
And it's a long way home
I've been searching for a long time
Still have hope
We're gonna find our way home

It's a winding road
Still have hope
One day we'll find our way home
It's a long way home
I've been searching for a long time
Still have hope
We're gonna find our way home

It's a long way home
It's a long way home

If God Made You by Five for Fighting

Hey Kid… Your time has come to change
Though I need you more than I’ve needed anyone in any way tonight
Hey Kid… I know it won’t be long
The Captain’s calling…come to see you back where we belong

Something inside me is breaking
Something inside says there’s somewhere better than this…

Sunset sailing on April skies
Bloodshot fire clouds in her eyes
I can’t say what I might believe
But if God made you he’s in love with me

Hey Kid…Do wishes count at all
Can you give me a sign…give me anything I won’t tell a soul you told
Hey Kid…Will you hold me when I sleep
Will you find me when the tide decides that I got to leave

Something inside me is breaking
Something inside says there’s somewhere better than this…

Sunset sailing on April skies
Bloodshot fire clouds in her eyes
I can’t say what I might believe
But if God made you he’s in love with me

Peace,
Beth

Well, On the Road Again by Willie is always a fun jingle and that will inspire you as you commute each day. I really liked the Ginny Owen song "I'll walk through the Valley, if you want me to". A bit preachy but it is a calmer for the "why me" and gets you more in the state of submission and God's sovernity. And then, another song, if I may, which I like to think makes all the noise and chaos of the NICU seem easier is the traditional hymn, "When we all get to Heaven". That one offers a great perspective and serves as a reminder of the final destination on the roller coast ride!!! And finally a suggestion for the for the little ones in NICU's around the world perhaps there is no better song than, "Jesus Loves Me", amazingly basic yet so very powerful. Thanks for sharing a glimpse into your journey. Ira will have quite a story to tell one day as will the two of you. Enjoy the tunes!

It is amazing how many of us are moved by music...it can take us many places. I immediately thought of a song that I don't have the music for...only the memory of how it goes from Mark Moore teaching it to us a couple of years ago at summer camp. I think it fits life in so many ways.

Let your living water flow over my soul.
Let your Holy Spirit come and take control
of every situation that troubles my mind.
All my cares and burdens unto you I roll.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.

Father, Father, Father.

Spirit, Spirit, Spirit.

Come now Holy Spirit and take control.
Wrap me in your loving arms and make me whole.
Take away all doubts and fears and take my life.
Draw me to yourself and keep me by your side.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.

Father, Father, Father.

Spirit, Spirit, Spirit.

Let your living water flow over my soul.

This song has been a favorite since the very first time I heard Mark sing it.
May you be refreshed with that living water.
grace, Julie

One of my favorite songs has always been "Rainbow Connection". When you think about it, it's pretty spiritual too. I think Ira will love it.

Lyrics:

Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it
I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.

Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that
and someone believed it,
and look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing?
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
the lovers, the dreamers and me.

All of us under its spell,
we know that it's probably magic....

Have you been half asleep
and have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it.
It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
the lovers, the dreamers and me.
La, la la, La, la la la, La Laa, la la, La, La la laaaaaaa

Love you guys!

I don't know you guys. I found your blog through the blogosphere and have been checking back often to see the progress of your sweet son. The song that came to mind when I read your post was "For Baby, For Bobby" by John Denver. Are you familiar with it? My parents sang it to me as a lullaby when I was a kid and I absolutely love the words!

I'll walk in the rain by your side,
I'll cling to the warmth of your tiny hand.
I'll do anything to help you understand
I love you more than anybody can.

And the wind will whisper your name to me.
Little birds will sing along in time.
The leaves will bow down when you walk by
And morning bells will chime.

I'll be there when you're feeling down,
To kiss away the tears if you cry.
I'll share with you all the happiness I've found,
A reflection of the love in your eyes.

And I'll sing you the songs of the rainbow,
Whisper all the joy that is mine.
The leaves will bow down when you walk by
And morning bells will chime.

Blessings and peace to you and your family!

Responding to the request for a song suggestion: A song we sang at Woodland Oaks Church last Sunday keeps running through my head.
It is called Jesus, Hold my Hand:

As I wander through this pilgrim land there is a friend who walks with me.
Leads me safely throuhg the sinking sand ti is hte Christ of Calvary
This would be my prayer dear Lord each day to help me do the best I can
For I need thy light to guide me day and night. Blessed Jesus Hold my hand.

Blessed Jesus hold my hand. Yes, I need thee every hour. Through this land this pilgrim land protect me by Thy saving power. Hear My plea my feeble plea O Lord dear Lord look down on me, When I Kneel in prayer I hope to meet you there Blessed Jesus hold my hand.

May His love enfold you and His spirit give you peace.

We all know that songs can be either really annoying or really moving depending on the mood. So here are some song suggestions -- with mood qualifiers.

Sorry for yourself:
"Breakaway" - Kelly Clarkson (works for most teen girls, might work for you)

Just plain ticked:
"Last Chance" - Jet (makes you want to kick something)
"Blood" - Pearl Jam (equally kickable)
"White, Discussion" - Live

Religious:
"He Is" - Vivi Massey (simple, pure, and true)
"Mercy Reigns" - Shane and Shane
"Light Up Ahead (acoustic)" - Further Seems Forever

Theological:
"Jesus Walks" - Kanye West
"God Pt.2" - U2
"Homeless Man" and "1972" - Scratch Track
"Come As You Are" - Nirvana

Thankful for Your Spouse
"Push" - Sarah McLachlan

Hopeful:
"40" (any live version) - U2
"Shiver" - Coldplay
"Everything" - Alanis Morissette
"Chariot" - Gavin Degraw

For Ira
"Baby of Mine" - Alison Krauss

Desperate for a Laugh:
"You Can't Kill the Rooster" - David Sedaris
"Bastille Day" - David Sedaris

That playlist should be just long enough to make it from your house to the hospital. Let me know if you need any of these songs "loaned" to you! And yes I worked really, really hard to only put two U2 songs on there.

Joe- I know it's several days late, but I wanted to share one of my favorite songs with you. It is sang by Rich Mullins and ALWAYS touches home with me. It may not perfect for you, but when I pray for Ira I see Jesus holding him in his strong and healing hands...

HOLD ME JESUS by Rich Mullins
Well, sometimes my life
Just don't make sense at all
When the mountains look so big
And my faith just seems so small

So hold me Jesus, 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

And I wake up in the night and feel the dark
It's so hot inside my soul
I swear there must be blisters on my heart

So hold me Jesus, 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

Surrender don't come natural to me
I'd rather fight You for something
I don't really want
Than to take what You give that I need
And I've beat my head against so many walls
Now I'm falling down, I'm falling on my knees

And this Salvation Army band
Is playing this hymn
And Your grace rings out so deep
It makes my resistance seem so thin

So hold me Jesus, 'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

You have been King of my glory
Won't You be my Prince of Peace

*If you don't own it, I highly reccommend the Rich Mullins Songs CD, lot of great inspirational songs.
God Bless you.

I just wanted to add a few song suggestions to this list.

Beautiful Day - U2
Vertigo - U2
Clocks - Coldplay
Dreams - Cranberries
Only Time - Enya
A Day Without Rain - Enya
Pachelbel - Canon
These are the moments - Edwin McCain
Long Black Train - Josh Turner (I came to love this song when my mom was in hospice - it reminds me of her)

I could go on and on with songs, but I think you have a long enough list already. I've copied the lyrics of Lovely by Michelle Tumes, because it really is a peaceful song. You're in our prayers. Kelley and Leigh :-)

Lovely - Michelle Tumes (Center Of My Universe)

You're the sweet dreams that soothe me
When I can't fall asleep
You're the field in the middle of the city
When I'm rushing by at the speed of light
You're the strong resolution when I find no peace
You're the church bells ringing in the evening
When all is quiet You whisper comfort
That lifts my heart
I get so weak

Chorus:
Ooh You're lovely, lovely
You're the center of my universe
A thousand times I look around me and I find
Ooh You're lovely, lovely
You're the center of my universe
A million ways could not explain
You're lovely

You're the soft words that touch me
When I just can't speak
You're the breeze on the ocean in the morning
Reminding me to greet the day
You're the flowers I remember seeing in Italy
Colors through a golden haze
Bright and radiant, soft and fragrant
In the noon day sun, it makes me sing

chorus

I understand there may be grief
And there may be pain
But I'm aware You blind the darkness
With Who You are

Because...

Chorus
