Wise

Ira had an appointment with the neonatology department at Children's this past Friday. We couldn't find a convenient sitter for Sophia so she went with us. Laura had the following exchange with Sophia on the way to the hospital:

Sophia: Where are we going?
Laura: To see Ira's doctor at the hospital.
Sophia: Will Ira get to come home with us when we leave the hospital?
Laura: Yes, Ira will get to come home with us after we're done. I promise.
Sophia: Okay.

She is much more perceptive, much wiser than we know. And she kinda likes her baby brother.

Hi Joe. You don't know me but I've been reading your blog for a few months now. I don't even remember how I got here but I was immediately hooked on Ira's story and even went back into your archives to read the whole story. I felt like leaving a comment today because of something my OB/GYN told me today. I had an appointment (just regular stuff, I'm not expecting) today. When my doc came into see me (and I had been waiting an hour) she explained there had been a couple of emergencies that day. I said that I hoped all was alright and then she told me that a patient had just had her 20 week ultrasound that showed the baby has CDH. If I had never read your blog I would not have even known what CDH is and how devastating the news would be to receive. It occurred to me later that it was around this time last year that you and Laura received your news about Ira. I'm going to pass this website address onto my doctor, hopefully this couple can read about your struggles and joys and fears and triumphs and possibly gain some peace and insight into an otherwise very difficult time.

Merry Christmas! I'm sure this one will be very bright.
