one of these things...

Do you remember that little game and song on Sesame Street:
One of these things is not like the other,
one of these things just doesn't belong.
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
by the time I finish my song?
There are times when I'm in a social situation in which I'm fairly certain I'm the object of that game; that I'm the thing that doesn't belong. I imagine someone bursting out from behind a hidden door and yelling, "Him! It's Him! He doesn't belong!" And at that announcement balloons and confetti are released from the ceiling, horns blow and the host congratulates the contestant. "Good job," the host says, "You win a brand new car!" The contestant nods in appreciation but admits, "Thanks, but it wasn't that difficult. Just look at him. He doesn't belong in this situation. Not at all."

I know, I know. Pretty narcissistic, huh? But am I alone in this? Do you feel this, too, at times?

I leave you with this one of these things is not like the other challenge. Good luck:

Lincoln, Wilson, FDR, Bush? What did the country think of the first 3 during their time in office? What did they think of war (http://home.att.net/~jrhsc/presidents.html) ? Who was the last president that left office popular? HISTORY has shown that many, but not all of the actions of Lincoln, Wilson, and FDR were beneficial for the country in the long run. What will HISTORY say of George Bush?

Letterman you ain't, my brother.

As a warrior for gender justice, I often feel like a Bush, doing what I believe is right, staying the course, while what seems to be the consensus is moving against me.

I believe the history books will look back on Bush with kindness and respect.

Personally, I am grateful that it has been Bush in the Hot Seat these past 6 years rather than Gore or Kerry.

I should be clear that this isn't a post about Bush. It really is about me and my feelings of inadequacies. It just so happened that when I googled the phrase "one of these things is not like the others" that the War Presidents collage was one of the first images to pop up. I thought it kinda funny. No?

I often feel like the one thing. Maybe everyone does sometimes.

I thought the cartoon was funny. And I feel like an oddball all the time. I've just chosen to embrace and be the oddball.

There's this great children's book called "Tacky the Penguin" that inspires me immensely. You should check it out.
