We're on for 8 a.m. The surgery for 8 a.m. was cancelled so Ira was bumped up. He'll go in at 7:30 and the procedure will begin at 8.

They will correct the re-herniation, put in a G-tube and possibly do two different procedures to the stomach to help him with his food intake. They'll decide about the stomach procedures when they actually open him up.

He's sound asleep at the moment. Don't think I'll be going home tonight.

We will be lifting up Ira and your family in the morning. May God give you an extra measure of strength and peace as you wait once again to see and hold your little one. May He guide the hands of the doctors who will be operating.
All our prayers,

Joe, Laura, Sophia,

I will be praying boldly with expectations tonight & in the morning, knowing our God hears not only our petitions to Him, but knows our fears. I pray he will give you peace during the surgery, knowing God will be with the surgeon/s, and help sweet Ira stay strong. God has kept him strong. I will pray that He will keep him strong during this surgery, that everything they need to do to help Ira can & will be done. Give him a kiss from Billy, Kelley, Leigh, and me before he goes in for surgery. Wish we could be there to kiss him ourselves! We will anxiously be waiting for your blog.

Love you,
Weedon

Dearest Laura, if I could bear some of the pain during this difficult time I would. I wish you could place it in a box and give it to me to hold for a while. I love you and am praying for baby Ira daily. Please tell Kay that she is in my prayers too.

It is likely to be a long night, but a precious one as you stand over your son. I join the others in praying that God will cause the doctors to use every ounce of their skill, and that He will take it from there for this to be Ira's turning point for the better.

May God's presence and comfort envelope you tomorrow as He guides the surgeons and holds sweet Ira in His hands.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Forty years ago I worked nights at that hospital on the 14th floor. In my mind I can still see the lights of the Empire State Building and the Hudson River to the right.
Be strong and of good courage.

I have been down this road of surgery and fear. I hope with this surgery Little Ira begins to heal and lives a long life.

I have prayed for Ira and his family. I prayed for the doctors hands to be guided by the great physician.

May you find peace and comfort to get through this difficult time. God bless you all.

It is almost 1:00 New York time and I just talked to Joe's dad, Joe, who happens to be my husband and Ira's granddaddy. I know Joe and Laura will blog later to give you more detailed news about Ira's surgery...but for now, we hear that he is out of surgery and in recovery and on a respirator and the doctors said the surgery went well.
